A blog by interior stylist and content creator Emilie Von Hofsten
Known for her effortlessly layered interiors and confident approach to colour, Emelie Von Hofsten has a distinctive eye for creating spaces that feel both considered and full of personality. We caught up with Emelie to talk about her approach to decorating with colour, the pieces she uses to bring a room to life, and how she creates a home that feels collected rather than overly styled. From playful accents to unexpected colour combinations, discover her tips for introducing more colour and character into your own interior.

Emelie's Take on Personalising Your Home
How would you describe your personal interiors style, and what influences the way you approach decorating your home?
"I would describe my style as quite classic and timeless, but always with a playful element. I love traditional interiors, beautiful craftsmanship and pieces that feel as though they could have been there for years, but I also need colour, pattern and something slightly unexpected to make a room feel alive.
I’m naturally drawn to soft blues, greens, warm reds and pinks, as well as natural materials, dark wood and lots of textiles. I think my style has become much more confident over the years. I used to worry more about whether everything worked perfectly together, whereas now I trust my instinct and choose things simply because I love them. For me, a home feels like “me” when it’s layered, personal and perhaps a little imperfect."

How to Decorate With Colour Without Following Trends
Your home feels full of personality and colour – how do you approach using colour within your interiors?
"Colour is probably one of the most important elements in my home. I rarely start with a strict palette; rooms tend to evolve naturally over time. I might fall in love with a fabric, a piece of art or a particular object and build from there.
Blue is probably the colour I return to most, but I love mixing it with reds, pinks, greens and warmer tones. I think the key for me is combining colour with more timeless elements, classic furniture, natural materials and traditional shapes. That gives me the freedom to be a little braver with everything else without the room feeling too trend-led."

Beautiful Family-friendly Home Decor That Reflects Everyday Life
How do your interiors reflect your everyday life and the way you use your home?
"I really want our home to be beautiful, but it also has to be a home that we actually live in. We have a five-year-old son, so nothing can feel too precious. I love a beautiful room, but I also love seeing toys on the floor, books left out and all those little signs of everyday family life.
The spaces where we spend the most time together naturally mean the most to me. Home is very much my safe place and where I feel most creative, so my surroundings affect me enormously. I love moving things around, changing small details or bringing home flowers, those little things genuinely change how a space feels to me."

What are some of the details or finishing touches that you think make the biggest impact in a home?
"For me, it’s always the smaller details that make a room feel finished. Lamps and beautiful lighting, flowers, books, cushions, trays, candles and picture frames can completely change a space.
I especially love photographs in beautiful frames because they instantly make a room feel more personal. I think those finishing touches are also where you can have the most fun. You don’t necessarily need to redecorate an entire room, sometimes changing a lampshade, adding a patterned cushion or placing a few beautiful objects together is enough to give a space a completely different feeling."

Emelie's Addison Ross Edit: How She Styles Our Photo Frames
Tell us about your Addison Ross edit — which pieces did you choose and what drew you to them?
"I chose pieces that I knew would work naturally throughout our home rather than in just one particular room. I love the Addison Ross frames because they’re decorative enough to add something to a space, while still allowing the photograph itself to be the focus.
I was especially drawn to the colours and patterns because they work so well with the way I decorate – they feel classic but playful at the same time. I’ve styled them amongst books, flowers and objects we’ve collected over the years, which is how I like things to feel at home: considered, but never too arranged. I also love that you can move them around so easily and create completely new little compositions."

How Accessories Make a Space Feel Personal
Addison Ross is all about creating pieces that bring colour, confidence and lasting meaning to the home. What role do you think objects and accessories play in making a space feel personal?
"I think they’re what ultimately turn a beautiful room into a home. Furniture creates the foundation, but the smaller objects are what tell the story of the people living there.
Some of my favourite things in our home aren’t necessarily the most valuable or impressive, they might be photographs, something we’ve brought home from a trip, a drawing from my son or an object that reminds me of a particular moment. I definitely prefer collecting things slowly over time. I think a home becomes much more interesting when everything hasn’t been bought at once, and when you can look around a room and remember where things came from."

Emelie’s Advice for Creating a Home that Reflects Your Style
What advice would you give someone looking to create a home that feels authentic to their own style?
"Try not to think too much about what you should like. I think the most beautiful homes are the ones where you can immediately sense the personality of the person who lives there.
Take your time, buy things you genuinely love and don’t be afraid to mix different periods, colours or styles. Not everything needs to match, and not everything needs to be perfect. I actually think a room becomes much more interesting when something feels slightly unexpected.
And perhaps most importantly, remember that a home is meant to be lived in. It should hold your memories, change with you and make you happy when you walk through the door."
